Oskaloosa's Philosophy of Gifted Education
Gifted and Talented children are those by virtue of outstanding abilities, talents, or potential for accomplishments, capable of high performance and require differentiated educational programs beyond the normal school curriculum.
Our goal is to provide special instructional programs and supplementary materials to meet their unique needs, so that they may develop and fulfill their potential for themselves and for society at large.
Program Rationale/Mission
The Oskaloosa Board of Education recognizes that some students require programming beyond the regular education program. The Board will identify students with special abilities and provide education programming (Board policy 604.3).
Gifted education helps to ensure that gifted children are offered a variety of learning experiences at many levels so they may develop - to the level of their ability - the skills and abilities they choose. Gifted children also need assistance in becoming self-directed learners by understanding and nurturing their own learning styles, study habits, interpersonal skills, motivation levels, and career choices.
Gifted children need a scheduled time to exchange ideas with other students of similar abilities and interests. When the needs of the gifted are considered and the educational program is designed to meet these needs, these students make significant gains in achievement.
Where is the TAG room located?
